Interior Designer Spotlight – Emily Iwaskewycz

Where are you from originally?

“I’m from Fort Lauderdale, Florida. In 2013 I moved from Fort Lauderdale to Jupiter and have lived in the Jupiter area since!”

Tell us a little bit about your role at Decorators Unlimited?

“I am an Interior Designer and I meet with clients daily, either at our office or in their homes. I am a part of the entire process of their project. I work with the architect and builder on the initial plans, determine the design intent, make selections, and choose furniture, fabrics, and finishes. Everything you can see with your eye is what I am working on with the client, all the way through to completion.”

Where did your love of design come from?

“I think I was born into design! My entire family loves design; my grandmother was ahead of her time, my mom followed in her footsteps, and it was a natural decision for me to choose Interior Design as my major at FSU. I love having the ability to help my clients achieve their dream homes!”

What would you say your favorite design style is? Why?

“I like very clean-looking interiors, but also warm and inviting. I want to create a home that evokes a feeling of community with the wow factor. Warm, inviting, but also contemporary comes to mind. I want my clients to have a space where they can make memories for years to come!”

What advice do you give your clients when working with them?

“To trust me! (Laughs) I also give them advice to try to think about how they will use each space in their homes. I try to present my ideas in a way that helps them see my vision of how the space will look as a whole. It is important to take one step at a time with the design process. I am happy to help guide them in making the correct choices for each and every decision!”

Can you tell us about one of your exciting upcoming projects?

“I am working on a renovation, and it is exciting because the homeowner likes very unique pieces! The home is traditional, but we are bringing it up to date. It’s an amazing property located on Jupiter Island with a beautiful view. It is going to be exciting to see the entire project come together.”

What is the best piece of advice you have ever received?

“To stay true to yourself and be confident in what you believe in. This can be applied to life in general and design. Sometimes clients can give me pushback, so it’s good advice to stay true to what I believe the space should look like.”

Where do you gain inspiration?

“I get inspiration everywhere, but specifically nature! I love natural elements, and love to be outside. Luckily, we live in a beautiful area. I get inspired by going to the beach, snorkeling, seeing nature, and traveling. I also gain inspiration from coworkers, seeing what our firm is doing as a whole is so inspiring.”

What is your favorite part about being an Interior Designer?

“I like the creativity! I also love working with our clients. I love getting to know them, and I learn a lot from each one.”

If you were designing your dream home, what’s one thing you must have in it?

“For me, it would be so important to have an incredible outdoor space! A gorgeous pool area, view, and space for my kids to play.”

When you’re not designing, what are you doing?

“I am playing with my kids! I have two boys, 6 and 8, and we all love going on adventures. You can often find us at the beach, mountain biking, surfing, and playing sports. So, when I’m not here at the office, I am outside being active with my family.”
